Personality and Personas:
Which Version of You Are You... And Which Do You Want to Be?

Guide Me Through Identifying Personas!

Guide Me Through Identifying Personas!

This video is meant to walk you through using the concept of Personality and Personas.

You might want to skim through the information below before you dive in...

Your Personality is your true, authentic expression of you.

Your Personas are the version of yourself that you choose to show at a given time. They are aspects of you, versions of you. Using one doesn’t necessarily mean you’re not "authentic”, it simply means you’re using a set of behaviors in a particular situation that may or may not align with your true soul Personality.

Identifying your Personas help you:

  • Understand and accept all aspects of yourself, and ultimately love yourself

  • Act from choice, not from a set of behavioral habits

  • Be who you came here to be

If you're in a situation and want to evaluate how your Personas are contributing, ask yourself:

  • Am I expressing myself using my core, authentic Personality? (it’s okay if the answer is no. Sometimes Personas are needed).

  • What Persona am I using?

  • How does using this Persona align with- and support- my reason for being here, and the Directives and Absolutes?

  • How does using this Persona help the situation? Hinder it?

  • Which parts of this Persona should I use in this situation, and which should I ditch?

If you want to work with your Personas from an overall perspective:

  • Clear your BODY and mind with RBQT-18".

  • Start by listing the core roles you play; the "hats" you wear. Perhaps hats like "father", "professional" or "coach" come to mind.

  • Examine what you do in those roles. What adjectives would you use to describe yourself in that role?

  • Look for patterns across all your Personas.

  • Consider your level of comfort in each role.

  • See if these things give you hints about what is your core Personality and what are Personas.

You can also look from an overall perspective, but diving deeper into a specific role:

  • For example, let's take the role of "spouse" or "partner".

  • Now identify the most common Personas you use in that role.

  • For example, let's say you identify The Friend/Equal, The Needy Partner, The Too-Busy-For-You Aloof Partner, The Condescending, I'm-Usually-Right-and-You're-Usually-Stupid Partner.

Taking each of those Personas you know you have the potential to slide into, ask yourself:

  • What sub-role do I want to see as my "default mode" in this overall role of spouse? (as an example from these choices, you likely enjoy showing up and behaving as a Friend/Equal as a spouse).

  • What are the pros and cons of each of my common sub-role?

  • What is likely to "push" me into a role that I don't enjoy? (Remember, the Choice is typically yours... so did you really get a push or did you jump?)

  • How can I more quickly identify when I slide into a sub-role that I don't like?

  • What can I do to more quickly regroup when I want to change my sub-role?

  • Remember, this is about YOUR behavior, about integrating YOUR Personas. You might identify things someone else does to "make you slide into [...]" but remember- this is your journey. You are responsible for your behaviors, and they are responsible for theirs. You likely will have to dive deep into self, and use some real honesty with yourself.

  • Start with an RBQT-18", and remember R -> R -> R can help to guide you.

As you work any of these options, take note of patterns you find. Your insights are likely the keys to feeling like - and acting like - your true, soul self... whenever you want!
